Bangladesh national shot to death by BSF at Lalmonirhat border

A Bangladesh national was shot to death by the Indian Border Security Force at Burirhat Border of Kaliganj upazila in Lalmonirhat on early Saturday. Two more people received bullet injuries in the incident.

The deceased was identified as Muruli Chandra, 42, son of Sushil Chandra of village Uttar Balapara under Chandrapur union of Kaliganj upazila.

The injured are Mizanur Rahman, 32, son of Azimul Haque, and Liton Miah, 40, son of Nur Islam; both residents of village Chandrapur.

Lalmonirhat 15-Border Guard Bangladesh battalion director Lieutenant Colonel Mofazzal Hossain Akund said that the shooting incident took place near Burirhat border inside Indian Territory.

A group of Bangladeshi cattle traders, including the victims, entered Indian Territory through the border. BSF members opened fire at them while they were returning Bangladesh with cattle.

The BGB official said that they wrote a letter to the BSF authorities protesting at the incident.

The body was kept at Kaliganj Police Station, said the police officer-in-charge Imtiaz Kabir.
